Trying To Understand Alabama Abstract Artists

By Mary Clark

Anyone who has gone to a museum has probably seen someone who is subjected to abstraction but clearly has no comprehension or interest in the piece. There are many people who have been in that very situation where they simply do not understand something that the institutions and individuals around them profess to be art. Sometimes people just don't like theoretic art, but for those who are curious and want to know more or have already been devoted to the art form for many years, there are plenty of Alabama abstract artists out there.

Another name for this type of artwork is nonobjective art. One of the things that people love so much about it is the fact that they can be interpreted so broadly. A lot of people love that fact that it requires a certain amount of artistic intuition in order to be able to appreciate a piece. This makes many appreciators of fine art feel more connected to their pieces.

Art comes in many forms, and some of the most popular mediums for centuries have been paintings and sculptures. This type of artwork is no different and comes in those forms as well, but there are also essentially boundless opportunities outside of those conventional options as well. Since abstraction is so free, the artist is limited only by her or his own creativity.

When observing a piece of art like this, it can be hard to know what one is looking at. That's why it helps to know what to look for in the subject. The subject of a piece of art is simply what is represented there, and by learning to break down and analyze the different aspects of a piece, it can be easier to understand.

The fact that the subject of nonrepresentational pieces is what the viewer sees may not seem any different from the subject of a more conventional painting. However, the fact that there is nothing represented that exists in the natural world can make the meaning of the subject much different. It allows multiple interpretations and a more personal connection to the observer.

The aspects that make up the subject of a piece of artwork like this can include things like the types of brushstrokes that are used, the size of the piece, the scale of the images portrayed, the shapes that are represented, and the colors that are used. These in and of themselves encompass a broad range of techniques. Outside of these, an artist can be as creative as possible.

Since there are no recognizable images or objects in these pieces, it may seem like there is not much that the subject can be about. The opposite is actually true because abstraction removes all earthly boundaries. It takes a different way of thinking and some artistic intuition, but it is a very freeing art form.

Action painting is a form of performance art that is still popular today. Many people have seen artists who jump energetically around on a stage while they throw paint on a canvas and create a beautiful work of art before the audience's eyes. One of the notable people who partook in this form of art was Jackson Pollock.
