The Art Of Indie Rock Music Video Promotion

By Eric Stone

Music moves people. In cases of people who exercise with a dedicated workout playlist, this is to be taken literally. But music is also an artistic expression, the language of the soul, so to speak.

Glitz, glamour, opulence, and wealth have long held the fascination of society. All of them things to aspire. And there is no better embodiment of all four traits than the celebrity. Throughout history, nothing has held the imagination of the people more tightly than the celebrity, save for religion. It used to be that fame was tightly controlled, the people only knew what the corporate overlords wanted them to know. But as in all things, it changed. Society moved forward. It became so that there were those who could rise to the top, to become gods and goddesses, without the blessing of the suits in their boardrooms. Now, these acts got to that point by being good at what they do, however all the talent in the world cannot make up for marketing, which is why they had to engage in indie rock music video promotion.

An indie rock band is like a regular rock band. The main difference is that an indie rock band does not have the backing of a major record label. This means that they will not have producers, sound engineers, publicists, or the connections to get an album in retailers. An indie band will also have to pay for recording sessions, touring, and merchandise out of pocket.

Getting a name out there is never easy. Even in the age of social media, it is still very difficult for a band to become known to more than a handful of people. Because the market is so flooded with acts dreaming of stepping out of private jets to throngs of adoring crowds, voices, not matter how unique or talented, can get lost in the shuffle.

Of course, social media has created new avenues for bands to get their names out there. Many bands upload their videos and songs onto video streaming services. Some of these channels can bring in hundreds of thousands or even millions of listeners, making the band as famous as any mainstream act. The internet fame can even lead to them being signed by a major label.

But simply promoting about something on the internet is enough. People actually need to see the band perform. As such, an act must take its show on the road and tour, either as part of a sponsored festival or by themselves. This means long weeks on the road.

But getting back to the actual video itself. Anyone can record a music video nowadays. The only items that are necessary are a good phone with a camera and a computer. A halfway decent video can be an exorbitant cost however.

Primarily however, the song has to be good. Audiences can forgive even the most mediocre of videos. But a bad song is never going to get too many plays, unless they are of the ironic variety.

Life can be rather plain. But there are moments where it can be spiced up. But those moments are just that, moments, and they are fleeting. If they are recorded, then they can be relived.
