Art is in itself an imitation of life. There are so many ways that different artists can interpret what they see of life which is really the source of its beauty and meaning. Lately the most famous contemporary pieces come from places such as LA and New York. This does not come off as a surprise as both locations are just constantly bustling with life and creativity.
Throughout the cultural evolution of mankind, visual representation has always chronicled our way of living. It is a safe bet to say that civilization has started with abstraction, since detailed study about life has not really been the priority then. Now, since priorities have changed, there has been a change especially with LA abstract paintings and their themes. This, of course do not limit to those pieces found in Los Angeles.
What makes an abstract piece stand out from among others is composition. This is true to all types of art, but can be quite difficult to determine in this case, technically speaking. Not only does its aesthetic rely on color choice but also on so many unsuspected shapes and concepts.
Pablo Picasso was a very famous painter because of the political nature of his abstractions. While it had its own visual identity, it also had a political stand point. The most famous one would be the Guernica. This one was about the bombing that happened during the Spanish Civil War. The subject would be the victims of war during these times.
One of the best abstract artist that humankind has produced is Pablo Picasso with his shapes and composition genius. Sure these are just mere shapes that those with the audacity claims that can be done by elementary students. That can be one of the most insulting things you can say about art, honestly. A famous painting from the man is called Guernica.
More contemporary artists are meant to do really good in galleries found in Los Angeles. This is because art movements and new or evolved perspectives are still being valued. Not that it is not valued anywhere else either. The crowd and culture is just so much diverse. Look for the weird and the crazy instead of the plain and technical.
The funny thing with many contemporary pieces is how they are either really good or really pretentious. The price is not a good telling factor for this either. There are so many artworks sold that look so plain but then again you would not know that it was how they were made. There are also those that have come out accidental and are just splatters on a canvas instead of being made with careful composition.
It does not make sense that a painting is considered phenomenal based on who made it and not how it was made and how much effort and heart was given to it. This does not only extend to painted pieces but also to sculptures and installations. These contemporary pieces are more often than not lazy and pretentious.
The artist and the artisan are not the same. The former does it for the expression the later does it for the craft. While both may be driven by love and passion, the former may not always bring happiness that the latter always does. Those pieces that you find in Bath and Beyond may look as profound as a Pollock, but a real Pollock is created with precision and math, not random splatters on a canvas.
