Proper Ways Of Nursing A Brain Cancer Survivor

By Kevin Turner

Cancer is a killer disease. Once infected, it takes a lot to recover. There are many types of this illness and it is better if it is detected at an early stage. For this reason finding a brain cancer survivor is rare. Most of those who are affected lose their lives. It is important that they are well cared for so that they recuperate fast. The following are some of the ways in which they can be helped.

The sick person has to be watched carefully. The way they respond to the treatment is an important factor that determines their complete recovery. In case any sign of poor health comes up, the person should be taken back to the hospital for checkup and diagnosis. Sometimes the disease appears again. Immediate medical care has to be done and drugs prescribed.

Due to the processes that the patient go through during treatment, they develop side effects. This may affect the way they reason or the way they perform tasks. We are required to love and accept them. Long term effects will show up after some time. We should help them accept their situation and try getting things back to normal.

The only way a nurse will know the health history of someone is by going through previous reports. A person must have these at all times. It does not matter whether they are fully healed or not. Any time they visit hospitals, they must carry these along. We as the immediate assistants must make sure that the records are kept in the right places and that they are accessible any time they are needed.

Professional advice and well wishes will be of paramount importance to them. Knowing that people care and that the situation is normal gives them a reason to lead normal lives. This kind of support can only be given by a social worker. They know the right words to use and how to explain things to them in a friendly way. With the current technology, they can access these services from their homes via laptops or phones. Online sessions can be conducted for those with busy schedules.

It is our responsibility to take them to doctors for appointments. They are usually required to see their health advisers so that they are kept an eye on. Reminding them of the dates and driving them to these places is a show of support which is much needed. Ensuring that they skip none and that they enjoy the visits is of great assistance to them.

House chores can be overwhelming. The stress caused by this is not good for their health. One way of preventing this is by doing the work for the survivors or by hiring staff to do it. Having nothing to take up the energy is good for their well being. They should live with people around to avoid loneliness and to help them around.

Cancer treatment is very expensive. Booking appointments, going to health centers from time to time and paying for chemotherapy requires one to be financially stable. Unfortunately this is not the case for everyone. Those from humble backgrounds will need assistance to pay these bills. It is therefore our duty to see to it that they are cleared.
