What Psychologists Think About Play Therapy

By Charles Hughes

There are a couple of different therapists available for kids, just like there are for adults. Play therapy has become more and more successful for children, especially those who are younger. They begin to enjoy the process over time because it is more natural to them. They are involved in playing with games and toys or puzzles.

There are different ways of helping a child to deal with their emotions. However, over time it has been proven that this type of therapy has been very effective because it is more natural to the child. They will have more trouble talking to a child psychologist because it usually takes more time for them to warm up to the person.

They may have trust issues when they have been through some trauma. Some kids don't like talking about their family. They can only sit still for a certain amount of time before they begin to fidget and lose focus. This is especially the case with a child who has attention deficit disorder. They have a lot of energy that they need to burn off.

However, this is a lot that a play therapist can do for a child so that they become more confident. The reasons they are reserved is possibly an incident in their lives which they need to deal with. It can be a divorce between the parents. It can be a death of a relative which obviously has an impact on them.

This relationship is very important because they should become more attached to here. They should develop a great sense of trust for her. It should be a place where they feel that they are safe and where they feel that they are comfortable. It is already a comfort because of the fact that they are surrounded by toys and games.

It is important for the therapist to know when is the right time to communicate with the child. Usually she will know because of her experience. They will be in tune with their emotions. During the initial stages, the therapist will hold back, but as time goes by and the relationship grows, it is safe to questions them about the way in which they are interacting with their toys.

Sometimes, it is imaginary play which the therapist can tell more about discovering their weak areas and what is causing them more distress. A parent may just be worried about the confidence of their child. It is a good idea to focus on this as well because children who have a problem with self esteem will suffer right throughout their lives.

Children often feel as if they are not allowed to talk about what is bothering them at home. They don't know how parents will respond. Sometimes, they take more time to get this off their chest, but therapists are trained to be patient, and this makes a big difference. Therapists are compassionate and understanding which help the child feel that they can express their feelings.
