Identifying A Contemporary Impressionist Artist

By Debra Fisher

When it comes to art, there are a number of different artists and genres, past and present. As such, when looking for work by a contemporary impressionist artist, it is important to know the details which the masters of impressionism such as Claude Monet and others used in original French Impressionist paintings.

To understand the art of these contemporaries, one must first understand the art of the French Impressionist Masters. Some of these individuals include, August Renoir, Paul Cezzane, Edgar Degas, Marc Chagall, Frederic Bazille and Claude Monet. One of the best ways to gain insight into the amazing art and work of these artists is by visiting a gallery or museum. For, most have works hanging in art museums and galleries around the world.

At the same time, for those whom can not make it to a museum, a number of works are now available to view online. While this is the case, it can often be hard to see the same effects with regards to light and shadow which is highly visible in the original paintings. Whatever the case, in order to understand current artists working in this genre, one has to understand the concept provided by the original paintings.

Contemporaries working in this genre use light brush strokes, shadow and a special technique which makes light come to life. A good example of this type work, is that of Thomas Kinkaid, whom while considered a contemporary passed away in 2012. Still, often known as the painter of light, Mr. Kinkaid had a way of painting scenery with light and shadow that was beautiful, unique and awe inspiring.

Individuals working in this genre often prefer to paint outdoors, as did the original French Impressionists. In many cases, these artists can be seen painting on canvas in gardens, parks or on hills overlooking the ocean. For, these areas often provide a great deal of scenery which can be captured and captivating in paintings.

In many cases, these individuals paint scenes bringing the elements of the scenery to light. Whether using lighting associated with scenery, or adding light for a special effect, contemporary impressionists are good at doing so. For, by using light brush strokes, subtle colors, light and shadow, many current paintings resemble those of the masters. As such, when looking to visit a gallery in San Francisco, California, these are often at the top of the list.

While the art form first emerged in France, there were others working in Italy and the United States. While this is the case, it was the French Impressionists whom developed the techniques which are still used by contemporaries. Basically, an art form that uses the play of light in different compositions and poses with varying colors which attribute to the feel of immediacy and movement.

It is now up to contemporaries to create new masterpieces using these techniques. For, while there are many well known paintings hanging in museums, most are priceless. As such, there are also people whom would like to own art resembling these pieces.
